Suchmaschinen Weblog und (keine) Kommentare
Schon vor ein paar Wochen habe ich ein Suchmaschinen Weblog bei Blogger aufgesetzt. So richtig in Schwung ist es aber noch nicht gekommen. Das liegt unter anderem auch daran, dass bei Blogger keine Kommentare in der originären Software enthalten sind. Um Kommentare zu nutzen muss man jetzt entweder warten bis die Funktionalität mit ins Paket aufgenommen wird (wurde angekündigt), die Software selber hosten und eines der vielen Fremd-Pakete dazu installieren oder auf externe Javascript-Lösungen zugreifen. Mit javascriptigen Lösungen kann ich mich nicht anfreunden, wie Suchmaschinen Optimierer sicherlich leicht nachvollziehen können, und so wartet mein Weblog auf das Update. Denn Weblogs ohne Kommentare sind wie Fische ohne Wasser. Any comments?

King - das ist mehr als das sonst übliche Thema Optimierung von Webseiten für Google & Co, mit dem heutzutage die Suchmaschinenresultate zugepflastert werden, in diesem Fall geht es um Usabilty, Visibility und noch so einiges mehr. Nachdem ich zur Book Lottery ein paar Stunden zu spät kam habe ich mir die anderen Beiträge und einen Teil der Samples näher angesehen - und das Buch via Amazon bestellt. Bin wirklich gespannt, denn zu good old e-trend Zeiten haben wir uns intensiv mit diesem Thema beschäftigt.

Jeremy on MySQL Column Types and Optimization
Sometimes small things make the difference. In MySQL Column Types and Optimization Jeremy mentions a tip from Scott Johnson that shows how to make a small benefit from a small change. I love this little optimization tips as they remind me of the good old Z80 and Motorola 68.000 times when every bit counted. That was the time when I knew all cpu cylcles and codes by heart, and a multiplication by n was converted into appropiate shift and/or add operations. It's a pity that a lot of such optimization techniques has become forgotten in the age of MS and it's resource wastage, huge harddisk and plenty of memory.

Password giveaway - Wenn nur die Hälfte davon wahr wäre, so wäre das immer noch erschreckend. Ich habe ja schon immer vermutet, dass Aufklärung Not tut, aber für eine derartige Freizügigkeit gegenüber sicherheitsrelevanten Dingen wäre die Bezeichnung fahrlässig noch viel zu harmlos.

Jeremy Zawodny: MySQL Full-Text Search Rocks My World
One of the first weblogs I met when getting contact to the blogosphere was Jeremy Zawodny's Blog. It's an archetype of what I think a blog should be. On one side it's entertaining when Jeremy tells about his job at yahoo.com as well as about his flight experiences in his separate flying blog, on the other side he gives insight in system engineering issues, especially related to MySQL. From MySQL Optimization over MySQL, Linux, FreeBSD, and Swap Space to MySQL, Linux, and Thread Caching you will find a lot of interesting and useful information. My two favorites are Apache logging directly to MySQL and MySQL Full-Text Search Rocks My World. Ok, one more? He is top of the blogs, at least if you search for his forename: Google Loves Me!. Yes, that really rocks ;-)

Deutsch oder Englisch ...
... das ist hier die Frage. Macht es Sinn ein Weblog zweisprachig zu führen, oder ist es besser, sich nur auf eine Sprache festzulegen. In einigen Weblogs geht es ja recht gemischt zu, so z.B. bei Chris Langreiter oder noch weiter fortgeschritten, bei Nico und seinem Couchblog. Ich bin mir da momentan nicht so sicher, ob und wie das funktionieren wird. Aber Versuch macht kluch ;-)

Blog reconstruction finalized
I changed my blog template to "Off Tilt", made some minor adjustments to page titles, color and link-structure and activated the cookies in order to make commenting more comfortable. Moreover I implemented the obligatory "calendar" and "most recent entries" functionality. Hopefully this whole thing will work now. Enjoy :)

Nette Sache - Weblog umgestylt
So, jetzt habe ich das Default Template rausgeschmissen und das der Marke Off Tilts implementiert - und auch schon erste Anpassungen vorgenommen. Die Software funktioniert gut, nicht andauernd Fehler beim Seitengenerieren etc. wie bei Blogger. So macht das Spass :)
